The English Team to Start UEFA Euro 2028 Journey at City’s Home Ground

England’s men’s team will initiate their Euro 2028 adventure at the the home of Manchester City, assuming they achieve the anticipated passage for a championship hosted across the bulk of Britain and the Ireland.

The Etihad Stadium has not welcomed an Three Lions game since eight years ago, when Turkey were beaten 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is expected to welcome the Three Lions for their opening fixture on Saturday 10 June 2028.

The team are scheduled to play their final two group matches at the national stadium, but, in the event of winning their group, their round of 16 match would occur at the Newcastle stadium. Securing the runner-up spot would mean commencing the playoffs at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Tournament Opening and Rally

The championship was launched at an event in Piccadilly Circus on the previous evening. High-ranking officials from Uefa and the host FAs were confronted as they arrived the venue by around fifty pro-Palestine demonstrators, who demanded Israel to be removed from the sport because of the conflict in Gaza.

Banners were held up with messages stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Timeline

The first match of Euro 2028 will be held at the the national stadium of Wales in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a match that will involve Wales if they secure a place.

Wembley will host the two semi-final matches and the title decider, which will be staged on July 9, 2028 with a start time at late afternoon.

It is expected that an earlier start, which will also be implemented for UEFA Champions League finals from next season, will appeal to households and help engage a broader range of viewers.

Qualifying Teams

The Irish team are due to play their initial fixture at the Dublin stadium and the Scottish team would do the same at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

All four host countries’ teams will enter the preliminary stage; two guaranteed slots will be set aside for any that do not reach the finals through that route.

Stadiums and Playoffs

Villa Park and Spurs’ ground complete the event’s nine venues. Every stadium will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarterfinal matches played at the national stadium of each host.

The draw for the qualifiers will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a tournament location last year when it was revealed the Belfast stadium could not be upgraded in time, on 6 December 2026.
