Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Loss

Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for concerns to be raised about his position after a further heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, representing the club's worst streak since being demoted in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.

“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from above,” Slot remarked.

“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win obviously but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that people question you.”

He noted, “I accept my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”

Discussions with The Board

When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:

“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”

He added, “During our regular conversations we have I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so we'll see.”

Persistent Failings and Player Response

The manager expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder said.

“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a phase such as this with outcomes this poor.”

Jones finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we'll continue to fight.”

“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone again what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the world.”

“But right now, things are bad and it must improve.”
