New Year's Partygoers Urged to Wrap Up Warm with Snow Forecast Across the UK
Forecasters are saying a frosty start to the new year, with snowfall anticipated over large parts of the UK. Celebrants are advised to bundle up as sub-zero temperatures are forecast for New Year's Eve.
Celebratory Plans Proceed In Spite of Alerts
Edinburgh's renowned Hogmanay celebrations are set to take place, a contrast to last year's postponement. This comes despite advisories for snow in northern Scotland.
"An icy New Year's Eve night for those who are celebrating, so warmer clothes will be necessary," stated the weather service.

To the north, conditions will be cloudier, but this is not anticipated to hamper visibility for viewing fireworks. "It won't be low cloud, mist or murk, so you ought to be able to see fireworks, just not stars," remarked one forecaster.
Broad Weather Alerts for Friday
Heading into Friday, advisories are active across Northern Ireland and from Wales, over the north-west, the West Midlands and all the way to London and most of the south-east of England.

Readings Expected to Fall Further

About 10cm of snow is forecast to have built up in some areas by Friday morning, potentially hitting 30cm on the top roads and uplands.
Public Health Warnings Issued
At the same time, amber cold health alerts have been activated for the north-east and north-west of England. These are set to stay active until noon on 5 January, with readings expected to fall to between 3C and 5C.
Authorities said this indicated the weather was likely to lead to major effects across health and social care services. This encompasses a expected uptick in the number of deaths among vulnerable individuals or those 65 and older.
